Hardware should be used as an accent to your overall design scheme. Use either the shape , texture or finish to help tie together your design. Maybe you want to add a modern twist to your design which can be achieved with a larger handle on a door or use a color to enforce you color choice for appliances or faucet. An antique finish or hammered  finish will give a more traditional look to your project. Handles can be put on either doors and drawers and the same can be said for knobs. Also, either all knobs or all handles can be used in a project. Placement of the hardware is an individual choice as is the amount of hardware that might be put on a long drawer box front. The most important point to choosing hardware is to look at your sample door and drawer front to see how the hardware will fit on it. For instance, if you choose a door with a beveled or curved style, a piece of hardware with a wide base will not sit properly on the style. If you choose a five piece drawer front, you may not be able to put a cup pull in the center panel. Overall, have fun with your selection and use it to personalize your project.
